COVID - Do As You Lecture or Shut Up
When I see tweets like this one I usually think, getting vaccinated is a good idea, wear a masks if you want, and CDC guidelines change depending on the political wind. But it is nice to see people promoting vaccines without threatening others.
Of course anyone who would tweet something like this would also follow their own advice, right? Not so much.
Rep. Maloney(D-NY18) is not only a congressman but also the chairman of the DCCC. At the time he tweeted this him and his spouse were traveling in Europe - including France - in violation of not only the CDC guidelines but also the State Department’s guidelines - as posted on the State Department’s website:
Do not travel to France due to COVID-19…The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for France due to COVID-19 indicating a very high level of COVID-19 in the country. (emphasis in the original)
Additionally, that whole wear a mask thingy he recommended? Well I guess that does not apply if you are in countries with “very high levels of COVID-19.” Neither he nor spouse were wearing them in any of the photos he posted to his Instagram account, including a wedding they attended at the Villa et Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild near Nice, France.
When he returned to the States Rep. Maloney headed off to Napa Valley and a DCCC fundraiser where he and the other guests went maskless while seated almost on top of each other. Seems the only ones following his mask advice were the servers.

What does the CDC say about this?
In general, you do not need to wear a mask in outdoor settings.
In areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
The CDC classifies Napa Valley as a high COVID transmission area.
Look, I think it’s a good idea to get vaccinated, if you have concerns, talk to your doctor. As for masks, I could not care less whether Rep. Maloney or anyone else wears them. What bothers me is the advice from those with a platform to do something - like wear masks and follow CDC guidelines - when they do neither as soon as they think you are not looking.
Time to stop the virtue signaling and start doing what you lecture others to do, or just shup up.
